To be admitted to the final examination for the award of the qualifying Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, which enables the practice of the profession of Pharmacist, the student must:
- submit an application for thesis assignment to protocollo@unime.it, countersigned by the thesis supervisor, at least 6 months before the starting date of the first available graduation session. For this purpose, the date of receipt by the protocol office shall be considered binding. For students participating in mobility programs, this requirement shall be certified by the internationalization coordinator.
- have acquired all the credits required by the approved Study Plan, with the exception of those assigned to the final examination, and be up to date with the payment of university tuition fees and contributions.
- have submitted the Online Degree Application within the deadlines established by the University (opening of the procedure on Esse3 40 days before the graduation session), and have uploaded to Esse3, at least 7 working days before the final examination, the PDF files of the plagiarism report and the final thesis.
- have paid, in accordance with current regulations, the amount of €49.58 as a state fee for admission to the professional qualifying examination (Royal Decree of 31 August 1933, no. 1592, art. 176; art. 2, paragraph 3, of the Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers of 21 December 1990), to be paid into postal current account no. 205906 made out to AGENZIA DELLE ENTRATE – Centro operativo di Pescara – TASSE SCOLASTICHE – REGIONE SICILIA (payment slip available at post offices), and €52.00 as the professional qualification fee established by the Sicilian Region (Royal Decree of 31 August 1933, no. 1592, art. 190; Regional Law of 25 November 2002, no. 20, art. 29).
The payment of the professional qualification fee may be made through the institutional website of ERSU Messina (www.ersu.me.it). On the homepage, at the bottom left, click on the PAGO PA symbol. Once the Online Payments page is displayed, access the PagoPA Spontaneous Payment Service (without authentication). On the PAY WITHOUT LOGGING IN page, click at the bottom on Create spontaneous payment and select Professional practice qualification fee from the drop-down menu. You may then proceed with the payment.
The PDF receipts of both payments must be uploaded under “career attachments” in the student’s personal Esse3 area by the deadline for submitting the thesis in the Degree Completion section of Esse3. The Student Office will verify the payments upon submission of the online graduation application.
The final examination for the award of the qualifying Master’s Degree enabling the practice of the profession of Pharmacist consists of the Practical Evaluation Test (PPV) and the discussion of the graduation thesis.
The Practical Evaluation Test (PPV) is intended to verify the professional skills acquired through the internship included in the degree program and to assess the candidate’s level of technical preparation for qualification to practice the profession. The PPV is an oral examination and covers the topics indicated in Article 3 of the Regulations of the Practical Evaluation Internship for the Degree Programs in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology (CTF).
The PPV must be taken at least seven working days before the date scheduled for the discussion of the graduation thesis. Admission to the Practical Evaluation Test requires that the student:
- has completed the internship activities and finalized the validation procedure of the Trainee’s Logbook, approved by both the professional Tutor and the academic Tutor and validated by the territorially competent Order of Pharmacists through digital signature; the relevant documentation is acquired and archived ex officio by the Student Office;
- has initiated the procedure related to the Online Degree Application;
- has registered, through the Esse3 platform, for the Practical Evaluation Test session scheduled for each graduation session.
Students who obtain a judgment of suitability in the PPV are admitted to the discussion of the graduation thesis.
The final examination for the award of the Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology concludes with the public discussion of the thesis, relating to an original work carried out by the student. The thesis must concern an experimental research activity, on the basis of which the Examination Board may assess the student’s cultural and scientific maturity as well as the quality of the work performed. The student and the Supervisor may avail themselves of the collaboration of a Co-supervisor, who may be a faculty member from another university, including a foreign one, or an external professional figure, including of another nationality.
The Examination Board for the evaluation of the final examination is composed of at least seven members, with the participation of no more than two members appointed by the Order of Pharmacists of the Province of Messina.
In order to pass the final examination, a minimum score of 66/110 is required. The maximum score is 110/110, with the possible award of honors (cum laude). The final degree grade, expressed on a scale of one hundred and ten, is determined by the following components: the base score, calculated as the weighted average of the grades obtained in curricular examinations; the curricular score (maximum 4 points), which takes into account the activities carried out by the student during their academic career (international mobility, completion of studies within the prescribed time, acquisition of honors, etc.); and the thesis evaluation score (maximum 7 points).
For the thesis evaluation score, the Examination Board shall take into account the quality of the thesis work, the effort devoted to the preparation of the thesis, the candidate’s presentation skills, and their ability to answer the questions posed by the Board in a relevant manner. Honors may be awarded, upon proposal of the Supervisor and with the unanimous approval of the Examination Board, only to theses judged to be of high quality by the Board.
The final Master’s Degree examinations are held in public, as is the official proclamation of the final result.
